Chery Fulwin A9 Range-Extended Version Launches From 116,900 Yuan With 230 km Electric Range

Chery has added a range-extended version of its Fulwin A9 sedan, going on sale on 26 October in two trims. List prices are 119,900 and 129,900 yuan, reduced to 116,900 and 126,900 yuan under a limited-time super trade-in offer.

A 46.1 per cent thermal-efficiency range extender

The car uses Chery's in-house golden range-extender system. Its dedicated 1.5-litre engine reaches 46.1 per cent thermal efficiency, generating 3.71 kWh from a single litre of fuel, and Chery says it stays above 90 per cent of peak thermal efficiency across 90 per cent of operating conditions. The DHT160 integrated drive motor claims a peak mechanical efficiency of 98.5 per cent. A 60-litre fuel tank backs the battery for longer journeys.

Battery, range and charging

  • 28.3 kWh Rhino battery pack
  • 230 km CLTC electric range, covering daily commuting without engaging the engine
  • Over 1,000 km combined range with a full tank and charge
  • 30 to 80 per cent fast charge in roughly 15 to 20 minutes
  • Navigation-linked thermal management pre-heats or pre-cools the battery en route, cutting about 10 per cent from charge time
  • 6.6 kW vehicle-to-load output standard, for camping or outdoor work equipment

Strong output, quiet operation

The drive motor produces 185 kW and 280 Nm, spins to 24,000 rpm and delivers up to 3,648 Nm at the wheels, while the range extender itself contributes 82 kW and 137 Nm. Because the engine is the weakest link in refinement terms, Chery focused there: a lightweight piston group cuts reciprocating inertia by 11 per cent, sound pressure measured one metre away stays below 70 dB(A), and AI-tuned engine start-up reduces vibration by nearly 90 per cent and seat vibration by more than 60 per cent. A smart regeneration function removes around 80 per cent of braking interventions, and a motion-soothing control strategy claims to halve the incidence of car sickness.

Lidar optional at the top of the range

The 230 Max lidar trim carries Chery's Falcon assistance system built on 27 sensors: one lidar, three millimetre-wave radars, eleven cameras and twelve ultrasonic sensors. It supports highway NOA, city NOA and full-scene automated parking, plus 100-metre reverse path following. The standard 230 Max does without the lidar, so buyers choosing on price should check which assistance hardware their trim includes.

Red Dot styling and a well-equipped cabin

The Fulwin A9 took a 2026 Red Dot design award, using a 4.39 wheelbase-to-wheel ratio and a drag coefficient of 0.223 Cd, with a floating hollow rear wing, sport front lip andwith a wraparound sport body kit. The cabin offers a 15.6-inch 2.5K screen on a 3 nm cockpit chip, 23 speakers, microphone-free AI karaoke and a conversational companion, plus a twelve-layer passenger zero-gravity seat with ventilation, heating and eight-point massage. There is a two-square-metre glass roof with an electric sunshade, 34 storage compartments and a 450-litre boot.

Structurally, the body uses 80 per cent high-strength steel including 20 per cent hot-formed steel, with eight airbags including long side curtains, and the Rhino battery is stated to have passed nail penetration and crush testing.

The pure-electric Fulwin A9 went on sale on 25 July from 109,900 yuan and became the best-selling pure-electric mid-size sedan in the 100,000 to 150,000 yuan bracket in its first month, delivering more than 7,000 units in September with cumulative orders passing 20,000.
