Dongfeng Mengshi X700 Goes on Sale: Huawei ADS 5, Roof Lidar and an 800 V Platform

Dongfeng's Mengshi brand has launched the X700, the first model of its X series and the first product of the brand's Huawei Qiankun "Strategic Cooperation 2.0". Sales opened on 25 October, following a pre-sale that began on 28 September with guidance of 249,800 to 289,800 yuan across three all-wheel-drive trims.

Huawei's full stack, including a roof-mounted lidar

The X700 is defined by software as much as hardware. A roof-mounted 896-line lidar feeds Huawei Qiankun ADS 5, delivering highway NOA, city NOA and memory parking, along with AEB 3.0 and space-to-space navigation 3.0. Inside, the car debuts HarmonySpace 6 with a pair of 15.6-inch Huawei screens at 2.5K resolution, a 21-speaker HUAWEI SOUND system and a 74-inch HUAWEI XHUD.

Two electrified powertrains on an 800 V architecture

Both variants use a 1,497 cc four-cylinder as part of an 800 V system. In range-extender form the engine develops 95 kW; in plug-in hybrid form it develops 113 kW. Combined system output reaches 518 kW, enough for 0-100 km/h in 4.93 seconds. Energy comes from a 68.1 kWh CATL pack developed for off-road use, giving up to 360 km of CLTC electric range and more than 1,300 km on a full tank and charge, with 800 V fast charging taking the battery to 80 per cent in the time it takes to drink a coffee.

Useful geometry rather than a hardcore toy

Unlike the body-on-frame Mengshi 917, the X700 uses a unibody structure aimed at light outdoor use, but the numbers are still respectable. The body measures 5,035 x 1,999 x 1,910 mm on a 2,920 mm wheelbase, with approach and departure angles of up to 37.5 and 38.3 degrees, up to 328.8 mm of ground clearance, an 800 mm wading depth and a 2.5-tonne towing rating. Folding the second row flat frees 2.77 cubic metres of load space.

Chassis and cabin comfort

The "Rock chassis 2.0" three-in-one suspension arrangement has been recognised as one of China's 2026 Top Ten Chassis. Mengshi claims it cuts cabin impact sensation by more than 40 per cent and cornering roll by more than 30 per cent. Front occupants sit on seats built with 60 adjustable air bladders and a 13-layer structure offering ten-point massage, and the dual 127-degree zero-gravity passenger seat folds flat at the touch of a button.

Built in Xiangyang

The first production car rolled off the line at Xiangyang on 10 October, and pre-sale orders passed 8,000 within 24 hours of opening. Around 61 per cent of the vehicle's parts are sourced inside Hubei province, and the project has drawn 28 new energy supply-chain companies to Xiangyang.
