Jetour Freedom 7 Launches 4 November as a 100,000-Yuan Boxy SUV With Two AI Models

Jetour will launch the Freedom 7 in China on 4 November, and unlike most new models it has skipped pre-sales entirely, so the price will only be known on the day. The Freedom 7 PLUS limited-time price starts at 119,900 yuan, and dealers expect the shorter car to open at around 100,000 yuan with the volume trim a little above 110,000. That would put a two-metre-wide boxy SUV into the same bracket as a mid-spec Haval Big Dog.

Entry price, not entry spec

The shape is familiar: upright pillars, a black vertical-slat grille with JETOUR lettering across the top, squared matrix headlamps and black wheel-arch cladding. The body is 4,651 mm long, or 4,749 mm with the storage box on the tailgate, and 1,967 mm wide with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. That box is not a spare wheel; it is a sealed compartment isolated from the cabin, which is more useful than a decorative spare on a car that will spend its life on tarmac. Ground clearance is 185 mm, wading depth 600 mm, approach angle 27 degrees and departure 28 degrees, and there is no ladder frame or four-wheel-drive option.

A 1.5T and front-wheel drive

Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder making 135 kW and 290 Nm, matched to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch and front-wheel drive, with a 170 km/h top speed. This is Chery's long-serving engine and gearbox combination, tuned for smooth low-speed response rather than straight-line pace. On a boxy body with a tall frontal area, fully loaded motorway work will not feel quick, and the car makes no pretence of being a tow vehicle.

The passenger seat is the pitch

Inside, the Freedom 7 gets a 15.6-inch 2.5K screen on a Snapdragon 8155 chip running Jetour's Tour OS, with both the DeepSeek and iFlytek Spark language models available for voice control, including multi-zone recognition. The driver's seat has six-way power adjustment with memory, heating and ventilation. The passenger seat gets an 80-degree powered leg rest and a one-touch relax mode, which is a strange thing to find in a car at this price and quite a sensible one for anyone who naps in a parked car. There is a 64-inch panoramic roof, a 360-degree camera with a see-through chassis view, and rear seats that fold flat.

Fighting the Haval Big Dog

Assistance is limited to Level 2 basics: adaptive cruise, lane keeping and automatic emergency braking. Jetour does fit automated parking, which matters more than highway assist on a car this wide, because the combination of a 1,967 mm body and a boxy nose makes multi-storey car parks awkward. Buyers who want highway navigation assist have to move up to the Freedom 7 PLUS, which is exactly how Jetour has split the two cars: the PLUS goes off-road, the Freedom 7 goes to the shops.
